Impressive show celebrates 60 years of Dominican air force
A spectacular air show has been put on in the Dominican Republic to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the country's air force.
Crowds welcomed the arrival of US Airmen and Coast Guardsmen, who performed alongside their Dominican counterparts, as did the president, Dr Leonel Fernandez, who watched the F-16 Fighting Falcon Viper West Demonstration Team as they wowed with a dramatic routine.
"I feel terrific about the air show," said Major General Pedro Pena, the chief of staff of the Dominican air force.
"This is the first time that we have such an amount of fighters from the US here and I think that the general public is enjoying it very much. This is a special way to bring our country's bonds closer and to work together."
Participating airmen Coast Guard Aviation Electrical Technician Dion Purcell also praised the "beautiful" country, adding that it was "a pleasure that they considered us to be a part of their program".
"We feel honoured to share in this," he added.
