Air access to Puerto Rico 'remains strong'
Peurto Rico is celebrating the addition of several new flights, as well as the preservation of established routes that were under the threat of cancellation.
It was thought that there would be a significant reduction in air access from the US mainland to Puerto Rico and other Caribbean destinations, reports Dominican Today.
However, successful negotiations along with the introduction of an airline incentive program by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) mean the airline industry places significant value in the Caribbean in terms of potential revenue.
This is welcome news for local businesses, as well as those with a Caribbean off plan property investment.
Terestella Gonzalez-Denton, Executive Director of PRTC said: "As the gateway to the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is a conduit for travellers visiting other islands.
"Air access to the region is especially important to our hotel and cruise industries and the consequences of limited air access would have had devastating results."
It was recently reported that the Dominican Republic's new tax laws are attracting many new investors.
